Childrens Study Home
Campus Master Plan & Landscape Design

Springfield, Massachusetts
1998-2000

Part of a comprehensive facilities study by Kuhn Riddle Architects, DDA’s Landscape Master Plan for the Children’s Study Home aims for a more functional, attractive and pedestrian friendly campus for the at risk teens who board at the school. Its four phased site improvement program includes purchase of an abutting property, a new multi-use green/athletic field (illustrated here), new walkways and relocated parking and service areas. Phase I, completed in 2000, features an expanded Administration Building and new Boy’s Dormitory by KRA, DDA’s complementary Phase I landscape design integrates the new property and expanded buildings into the campus fabric. Shown here are a sturdy new main entry area, which clarifies a hitherto ambiguous arrival sequence and a sunny new terrace outside the Boy’s Dorm.
