House Park Silver Spring Alexander House
Park is nestled between two high-rise subsidized apartment buildings on
a 1.5 acre site. A whimsical metal gate, paving pattern and glimpses of
a garden entice passersby on Silver Spring’s busy Second Avenue through
a passageway into the space. Here they find a sunny courtyard with moveable
teak furnishings, game tables, lush plantings in raised beds and an impressive
teal colored metal screen designed by Linda DePalma of Baltimore. Beyond
the confines of the underground garage, the park becomes more like a public
garden with masses of a colorful hillside plantings, bench niches and
a play area accessed by a sinuous walk down to a gate on Fenwick Avenue.
Nancy Watkins Denig, prior to founding DDA developed the design of this
park and collaborated with Ms. DePalma on the metal work gates and screen.
