Churchill Park is the centerpiece of a new affordable residential neighborhood, funded by the HUD Hope VI program. Surrounded by new houses and townhouses with gardens also de-signed by DDA, the triangular Park features a central multi-use lawn area dotted with trees and peripheral programmatic elements: a signature metal fence, a gateway/street festival terrace, a cluster of game tables, sculptural climbing boulders and seating along a 275 linear foot granite seat wall. Anticipating heavy usage and knowing the residents’ proclivity for colorful plantings, the seat wall protects an ample mixed border of ornamental shrubs, perennials and bulbs. Churchill Park is scheduled to open fall of 2003.
