It is hard to distinguish the Owners’ from DDA’s design in this diminutive urban garden. Ms. Denig’s commission to expand upon existing features, to solve problematic issues and to introduce new plantings has produced identifiable results, nonetheless. The entry forecourt is now tailored for one car and a concealed storage area. An expanded garden area under a mature Pine now features a shady passage, lightened by variegated hostas and ferns. The central lawn panel is now shaped, bordered with perennials and backed by a trellis structure, all designed to screen dilapidated neighbor’s siding. The rock garden now features a magnificent Miscanthus and other species to catch the sun and focus the eye at the gate. The collaborative process that created this garden is just as organic and ongoing as the garden itself.
