This typical suburban quarter acre lot has been transformed into a functional landscape for living. Street-side, a new entry walk is widened for two, a new drive is reconfigured for pulloff parking, the lawn is tailored for ease of maintenance, and plantings are added for multiseasonal interest. The rear “yard” is now a private enclave, enclosed by a slotted wood screen fence. The house is opened at two ends on to a wood deck low enough to forego railings in favor of benches. Down a few steps, the lawn is tailored for play and surrounded by mixed borders featuring seasonal perennials, ornamental grasses and ferns. Extending enjoyment of the garden, inconspicuous tree mounted fixtures cast subtle illusions of moonlight, every night, to the owners’ delight.
