BDDA’s design for this .3 acre property serves the needs of a couple with two small children and two large dogs. The front lawn has been leveled and cleared for children’s play. A front terrace has been expanded for basketball practice. Broad arcing bluestone steps, mowing edge and mixed perennial border define the front’s spaces and screen parked cars. The rear features a bluestone dining terrace and upper lawn, retained by a stone wall and bordered by a perennial garden. Circular steps are the focus of this garden and means of approach to the upper level. A side ramp is an alternative approach, designed for the dogs. This garden was featured in Garden Design magazine (December, 1992) and 1991 merit award-winner from the American Society of Landscape Architects Potomac Chapter.
