Golden Residence
Landscape Design

Chatham, New York
2002-2003

Built in the early nineteenth century, this upstate New York retreat is nestled into a southern slope overlooking a pond. Its name – Stonewall Farm - reveals both its history and character, defined by muscular stone walls at the base of the hill. DDA’s design for this property features a fieldstone wall to retain the northern uphill slope, define a dining terrace and enhance existing landscape character. The wall’s eastern terminus devolves into a rock garden bolstered by boulders. New bluestone walkways and terraces provide easy circulation from the drive and a generous arrival space fronting a new porch. A dooryard garden area skirts the porch now, made possible by reconfiguration of a previously undefined driveway.
