Spring Meadows Apartments
Master Plan and Landscape Design

Springfield, Massachusetts
2000-present

The Spring Meadows Apartment complex is a subsidized housing project of 200 townhouse units on a 20.7 acre site. DDA’s plan for its grounds envisions significant improvements for more safety, convenience, privacy, recreation and open space for its residents. Construction has begun on picket fencing, which defines front yards around parking lots. Subsequent removal of excessive parking spaces will slow traffic and accommodate enclosed play lots in every cluster. An under utilized play area will be linked to walkways and enhanced with features conducive for parental supervision and social activities: seating, grills, picnic tables, tether ball and volleyball. A loop trail will link clusters to bus stops and provide opportunities for jogging and rollerblading. Residents were active participants in the planning process. They are responding now to their new found privacy by planting and seeding. They look forward to Phase II implementation next year.
