North Point Place
Landscape

Cambridge, Massachusetts
2001-2002

This approved planned unit development will transform a 5.7 acre industrial site into a lively urban residential enclave at the eastern gateway to Cambridge. Two high rise, 765 unit buildings will take their place in the City skyline. The building’s landscape, envisioned by Nancy Denig in partnership with Carr Lynch + Sandell Inc., will provide open space, amenity and recreation opportunities for residents and the public. The proposed park features an outdoor cafe, water fountain, sitting areas and lush plantings bordering a central lawn. The entry terrace features a formal parterre, allee and, beyond that, a fanciful playground. Most distincitve perhaps, is the enclave’s frontage along Msgr. O’Brien Highway, under an existing elevated train trestle. A promenade for pedestrians and bicyclists will be created here, ani-mated by changing spatial sequences, woodland plantings and a serpentine wind activated trellis/mobile.
