St. Peter’s
Episcopal Church Springfield,
Massachusetts DDA’s design
for St. Peter’s grounds expresses the Parish’s ministry to members and
neighbors alike. New fencing along the front provides Parish identity
and marks entry points. New ceremonial and social spaces, an entry garden
and multi use lawn, accommodate Parish gatherings and annual fair as well
as neighboring children’s play. A new walkway through the property welcomes
neighbors and improves an accustomed, previously unpaved, shortcut between
Buckingham and Sherman Streets. A new memorial garden provides a place
of rest. These improvements have replaced impoverished site conditions
with a place of beauty and hope in a tenuous urban neighborhood. |
